Raising a tiny chocoholic? Us too.
For children 2 and above, we're big fans of introducing dark chocolate, which broadens the palette with its stronger taste profile, has less sugar and also typically less processed than milk chocolate products.
Enter these black bean brownies. Made with a whole can of black beans (or chickpeas!), they have less than 5 grams of sugar, about half of what's in one fun size packet of M&Ms.
The best part? You can order a batch for your child's birthday celebration at school! Stay tuned for a link to purchase.
Ingredients:
15 ounce can of black beans
2 large eggs
1/3 cup oil
1/3 cup + 1 tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/3 cup all-purpose flour (we recommend organic, unbleached)
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking soda
⅓ cup dark chocolate chunks
Oil for greasing the pan (olive, coconut or avocado)
Instructions:
Add all ingredients except the chopped chocolate to a food processed and combine until smooth
Grease a 9” x 9” pan with oil
Pour in batter
Sprinkle chocolate chips on top to distribute evenly
Bake at 375° for about 14 - 15 minutes
Yields 24 brownie bites of about 1" x 2"
